Vancouver, B.C., June 27, 2005 - During inspections of foreign vessels in the past month Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers have seized eight laptop computers and CDs containing photographic images of child pornography.
"Our officers are serious about keeping child pornography out of Canada," said Wes Ferris, CBSA's Chief of Harbour Operations. "We will continue to take this important and sensitive role very seriously and to fight this worldwide problem with our national and international partners."
Between March 26 and June 19, CBSA officers found photographic images of what they believed to be child pornography on eight laptop computers and CDs belonging to crew members during their examinations of five foreign vessels and their crew. The contraband was seized by the CBSA and turned over to the RCMP for further investigation.
Last year, CBSA officers in the Pacific Region made 24 seizures of child pornography.
